Death Valley is the largest national park in the lower 49 states, and no where else in the world can a photographer find the stunning variety of volcanic craters, multi-hued gulches, rippling sand dunes and salt-encrusted lake beds that exist here.  Snow-capped 11,000 foot peaks are reflected from the still waters of Badwater Basin, hundreds of feet below sea level and the lowest point in the Northern Hemisphere.

Salt Pan Sun Star

Join us for five days of exploration in the desert country of California and Nevada.  Instruction on this tour will concentrate on creating strong scenics in a barren landscape.  And, we’ll have plenty of time to practice what we’ve learned in world- renowned locations like Zabriskie Point, Artist’s Drive and the Mesquite Dunes.  The low winter sun will give us long shadows and warm light, bringing out the texture of the landscape and accentuating the pastel colors of the scenery.

For even more variety, we’ll also visit the nearby Alabama Hills.  Trying to do justice to Mt. Whitney towering over the incredible jumble of boulders that make up the Alabama Hills will challenge our compositional skills.  Weather permitting, we'll also try our hand at some star trails.  By the end of this tour, you will be able to assure people that if you’ve seen one rock, you’ve definitely not seen them all.
