EAGLE ADVENTURE

November 2009

Airport:  Juneau, Alaska

In November, we're headed back to Alaska.  This time it's to photograph bald eagles--not dozens, or even hundreds, but thousands of the majestic birds.  Every year at this time, the Chilkat River near Haines plays host to the largest gathering of bald eagles in the world.

Thousands Of Eagles

Lots Of Action!

Because of warm springs, the Chilkat freezes later than most Alaska rivers, and it has the latest salmon run of any Alaska river.  Nothing attracts eagles like spawning salmon, and since this is the last salmon run of the year, the birds gather from far and near to take advantage of the bounty.

This is a great opportunity to capture an incredible diversity of eagle shots--portraits, behavior, environmental, lone birds, pairs, small groups, large groups, enormous groups--eagles in the river, eagles in trees, eagles against the mountains.  Let your imagination run wild!
